Athletes performed well this weekend at early open meetings in the London. Throwers headed north to StoneX stadium and sprinters stayed south at Bromley.
Conditions at Norman Park, the home of Blackheath & Bromley HAC, were very blustery making long jump run ups and hurdles a challenge. Bethany Munn (U17W) jumped out to 4.10m, a considerable improvement on last year, unlikely to be legal due to the wind, but shows good promise for the rest of the season. Macy Reekie (U17W) had her first outing over 80m hurdles and finished in 15.40s.
In the afternoon luck was with the sprinters as the winds died to -2.0m/s and below. The three U17W all performed very well in the 100m with Bethany getting a PB of 13.88, Macy fractionally outside her PB with 14.54 and Megan Griffin a significant improvement to 14.08. In the 200m, Bethany ran 29.26s and Macy ran 30.81. Megan chose to run the 300m in preparation for Hampshire where she also has the 100m and 300m on the same day, and finished in 47.07.
For the boys, Jayden Planner achieved PBs in both his sprint races with a legal 11.75s in the 100m and a big improvement to 23.91 in the 200m.
Jamie Oldham had mixed feelings about his first outing of the year with 11.04s in the 100m, slightly over his sub-11 goal, and 22.46s in the 200m, but both times an improvement from his 2023 season openers.
Up north, the throwers were in fabulous form. Daniel Dubras threw another great PB, this time out to 52.23m, a new U17M Club Record once ratified.
Rachel Leck achieved another PB in her discus of 24.91m. Oscar Baudains also competed in the discus and threw 15.03m.
Well done to all athletes and thanks to Jersey Sport for their support via the Travel Grant.
