A small group of U20 and Senior athletes headed over to Lee Valley to take part in the South of England Indoor Championships last weekend (1/2 February 2025).
Lucy Cohu (U20), Ethan Rankin (U20), Taylor Renouf (Snr) and Steven Mackay (Snr) all competed in the 60m on the Saturday and the 200m on Sunday, with Ethan also taking part in the long jump. Lucy Hunt (Snr) competed in the 400m on Sunday.
- Lucy Cohu ran 8.30s in her 60m heat and 27.24s in her 200m heat, identifying what elements of her races need work before the outdoor season arrives.
- Ethan ran a PB of 7.81s in his 60m heat and took over a second off his outdoor PB in the 200m to finish in 24.54s. Ethan also got a 6cm PB in his long jump with 5.66m – a pleasantly surprising result as nerves and a faster surface meant that his run up did not have its normal accuracy and he jumped from the incorrect foot! That 6-meter plus jump will have to wait a few more months.
- Taylor Renouf ran 7.49s in the 60m and 23.81s in the 200m.
- Steve ran 6.97s in the 60m heats, only 0.01 outside his PB, to qualify for the semi-final, where he ran 7.02s. Steve also qualified for the 200m semi-finals, with a run of 22.54. He had an unlucky draw in lane 1 with its really tight bends, but bettered his performance in the heats with 22.45s.
- Lucy Hunt ran an excellent 58.82 in the heats of the 400m showing that winter training is going very well.
