Just in time for Christmas for the running geek in your life, we have a great offer for our members!
Strive, in conjunction with Dan Garrido from FX Fitness, are offering VO2 Max and Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) testing at their St Peters health club – with discounted prices for Club members.
What do these tests measure?
- The VO2 max is a number that describes your cardiorespiratory fitness – how your lungs, heart, circulation and muscles all work together. The test measures how much oxygen your body uses while exercising. The more oxygen you inhale, the more energy your body can use, as oxygen fuels chemical reactions in your muscles that make ATP (adenosine triphosphate), which is the main source of fuel for your muscles during exercise. The number is the maximum volume of oxygen the body can take in, move about and use in a minute. Higher VO2 max usually means better physical fitness. Tracking changes in your VO2 max over time can show you how your fitness is improving and how effective your training programme is.
- Resting metabolic rate is how many calories your body burns when it’s resting, and this figure can give you information you need to plan a weight loss, gain, or maintenance. We will measure the calories your body needs to sustain function while at rest. Your RMR is about 60% of the total energy your body burns during the day, and so it’s really important when calculating your dietary needs. The test also provides a body composition analysis
At the end of your test you will receive personalised reports from each of the tests explaining the data and how it can be used to help your training. A very useful output is accurate heart rate zones to ensure your training is personal to you. Dan has been trained to interpret your results by leading sports physiologist Dr Garry Palmer.
