Report on UI3 Team
The Athletics Inter-Insular held at F.B. Fields on Sunday 26th August was a keenly contested affair. Many of the U13 Jersey team were competing a year young but this did not trouble them as they gave their older Guernsey counterparts a run for their money.
The day began well with a convincing win in the 1500m for the talented Florence Gothard. This was followed by a further gold for Olivia Allbut in the Sprint Hurdles with a P.B. of 12.2 secs. Our final gold of the day for the Girls’ team came in the Discus with Eleanor Johnson throwing a P.B. of 18.65m. The U13 Girls had a fabulous haul of seven silver medals. Two silvers for Olivia Allbut in the High Jump and 100m Sprint and one silver medal for each of the following girls: Olivia Mehigan in the 800m with a P.B. of 2.37 mins, Laura Spencer in the Sprint Hurdles with a P.B. of 12.7 secs, Tallula Norman in the Long Jump with a P.B. of 4.24m, Chloe Besant with a P.B. of 23.1m in the Javelin and Lillie Godden with a P.B. of 5.7m in the Shot. There were a further seven bronze medals for the following girls: Maya Shobbrock-Walton with a P.B. of 30.5 secs in the 200m, Alia Byron in the 1500m, Grace McCarthy in the High Jump, Katie Beirne in the Long Jump, Eleanor Johnson in the Shot, Chloe Besant with a P.B. of 15.83m in the Discus and Lillie Godden with a P.B. of 17.51m in the Javelin. Libby Rothwell was very unlucky to get pipped at the post in the 800m. Despite a fierce fight from the Jersey girls they lost to their Guernsey opponents by an agonisingly small margin of two points.
The outstanding athlete in the U13 Boys section was Jack Leerson who broke two records. The first record to fall was Ross Jeff’s Club Javelin record with Jack’s throw of 34.31m, the second record was in the 800m where Jack was a convincing winner in a time of 2:25.10 mins. There was a further gold for Louis Bootland in the Discus. Rory Drummond had a great race in the Sprint Hurdles and received a silver medal for his efforts. There were silver medals for: Toni Ademuwagum in the High Jump, Jack Hardisty in the Shot, William Packman in the Discus and Louis Bootland in the Javelin. There were seven bronze medals won by the following boys: two medals for Kieran Rabet in the 100m and 200m and for Rory Drummond in the High Jump and Shot and one bronze medal for each of the following boys: Jack Hardisty in the 1500m, Ben Daniels in the Sprint Hurdles and Toni Ademuwagum in the Long Jump.
It was a fabulous day of competition and next year the U13 section will be hoping to emulate the convincing performances of their U15 Jersey team mates.
