JSAC Ogier Cross-Country – Event 5 – Report and Results

The fifth and final event in the JSAC Ogier Cross-Country Series took place in glorious sunshine at Les Mielles last Saturday, 29 March.  The good weather made for some exciting races around the fast dunes-based course.  The most important thing, as ever, was to see so many youngsters (and not-so-youngsters….including our very own Matt Wilson!) having lots of fun with friends and experiencing cross-country running in our beautiful Island environment.

There were wins in the U17s for Ewan Pilley, in the U15s for Ethan Seery and Eleanor Docherty, in the U13s for Florence Williams and Teddy Wilson, in the U11s for Savannah Hern and Daniel Rogers and in the U9s for Alexandra Lundie-Smith and Toby Collins.

Thank you to everyone who took part in this race, and the series as a whole, especially all those who have volunteered to marshal or help with other aspects of the organisation.  Your assistance has been hugely appreciated, and these events simply would not have happened without your help.  The events have all gone smoothly and safely, and that is largely down to those parents who have willingly put on a hi-viz vest and taken themselves off to remote parts of the courses!  Thanks also to Jess for the wonderful photos through the series, and to the Environment Department and Jersey Sport for their support.

Overall, the new XC Sub-Committee (Nick Williams, Matt Wilson, Tim Oldham, Judy Andrews-Callec and Linda Lelai) have been delighted with how the season has gone.  It has been a steep learning curve, but we are pleased to have continued the legacy run so brilliantly by Chris and Carly over the last few years.

We will now be arranging for trophies to be engraved, and for awards to be arranged.  There will be a relay and awards event in the next few weeks – date to be arranged – and we will communicate that in due course.  We shall then reflect on the season, and think about how we can bring it back bigger and better for next year.
