The annual Andy Coughlan Memorial ten mile race was run at the weekend from Big Verns to West Park in warm and sunny conditions. 37 competitors contested the event with Dominic Maher just getting the better of his brother Damian by 16 seconds, 58 mins 35 secs to 58.51. Veteran Phil Ahier finished third in 59.36; these being the only runners to beat the magic sub-one hour mark.
Norma Mahoney also just got the better of Spartan runner Sylvia Thompson. They ran together and the lead changed several times. Only 8 seconds separated them, Mahoney’s 68 mins 23 secs to Thompson’s 68.31. Third woman home was Helene Perree who ran steadily to finish in 73.18.
Road running committee chairman presented the trophies for the race which is kindly sponsored by the Coughlan family, John Lyons’ family and Jimmy Hickey.
The next JSAC event is a 2 lap race at Queen’s Valley ( St Saviour’s end) at 6.30pm on Tuesday 13th May.
