Jersey Spartan Athletic club held a 5k road race in warm sunny conditions with a slight wind against.The 22 runners set off from La Pulente along the five mile road to Les Laveurs car park.
Newcomer Josh Brien had a titanic battle up at the front with veteran Phil Ahier . On this occasion the youngster prevailed, out kicking Ahier near the finish to gain his first victory in 17.43, Ahier just behind in 17.45. Postman John Coote delivered a fine performance to finish third in 18.00.
The recently crowned British veteran 40 triathlon champion Jo Gorrod made a triumphant return to road running as the first woman home and fourth overall in 18.36. Sylvia Thompson continued her fine recent form by finishing second in 20.03, while third spot went to Katie Silva in 21.54. The sprinter having returned recently from the Island Games in Bermuda where she won a couple of medals was racing over distance and her third place won her the run of the day award.
The next J.S.A.C. race is the big handicap race of the year starting at West Park on Thursday 1st August at 6.30pm over 5k, the prestigious Wilson Trophy.
