Jersey Spartan AC held their last cross-country race of the year at the weekend on the dunes at St Ouen.
The JSAC cross-country season got underway at the weekend at Les Creux park. In mild, cloudy conditions the four lap, 5.6miles senior race was led at the start by Jon Coote.
The Advisa Junior Cross Country event was held at St Ouens manor on Saturday and was a great advert for youngsters enjoying the beautiful grounds
Results from Race 1 at Le Braye
Dan Romeril and Mandy Evans were the first man and woman home in the Jersey Spartan 2 lap race ( approximately 4 miles) at Queens Valley recently.
The 2014 Advisa Group Junior Cross Country Relay Races and Presentations will take place on Saturday 10 May at Le Braye.
All races will start at 1:15pm and check in opens from 12:30pm.
Inter Insular cross country was very relaxed but highly competitive in some lovely sunshine at Pont Marquet.
Jon Coote won a closely contested cross-country race at the weekend at Pont Marquet Country Park. Coote and Nick Gorrod had run together from the start until Gorrod fell a few metres behind going up the steep steps on the fifth and final lap.

Bruno Francisco was the clear winner of a 5.75 mile cross country race at Pont Marquet at the weekend. The course was in good condition despite the recent bad weather. Francisco powered home in 33 minutes 54 seconds, winning the race and gaining the run-of-the-day award.
The JSAC held a 4.5mile cross-country race at Mont Rossignol at the weekend. In the winter sunshine Tony Banks made light of the muddy, slippery conditions to win the race in a time of 25 mins 49 secs, which also won him the run-of-the-day award.
The fifth race in the Advisa Group Cross Country Series took place last Saturday at kempt Tower on another mild winter’s day. Compared with last year’s wet conditions the course was surprisingly dry so a course was planned which circum-navigated the bird sanctuary.
What was supposed to be a race of only about 4.5miles turned into a 10km cross-country at the weekend after Dave Woodsford and Jo and Nick Gorrod weren’t quite accurate with measuring a new course and the race turned into a gritty endeavour in the wind, rain and mud.
Jersey Spartan AC held their last cross-country race of the year at the weekend on the dunes near Kempt Tower. On a clockwise 5 lap course of 5.12miles the early pace was set by Dave Woodsford before postman Jon Coote took over the lead.
The fourth race in the Advisa Group Cross Country Series took place last Saturday at Queen’s Valley on a mild Winter’s day. Check in was at far end of the valley above the lower car park with the start and the end of the course by the gate on the road..
Jersey Spartan recently held a 5k night-time race at West Park. In dry conditions with light winds, 35 runners set out with the temperature dropping rapidly. The race was held in conjunction with the charity Jersken which runs a home for vulnerable orphaned children in Kenya and there were several Kenyan runners who ran in the race.
A total of 44 athletes, juniors and seniors, took part in an off-road race at Pont Marquet country park organised by Jersey Spartan at the week-end. In the December sunshine the men’s race was won by teenager Phil Maguire in a time of 28 mins 40 secs.
The third race in the Advisa Group Cross Country Series took place last Saturday at Beauport common. The course was a 1 kilometre anti-clockwise course that started and finished at the top of the common.
Twenty eight schools were involved in Open Cross Country at Les Quennevais.

It was a real test of character for the 11 Jersey Spartan Athletes who competed at Goodwood in the Hampshire Cross Country League. In atrocious wind and rain the course conditions were exceptionally muddy but compensated by a nice welcome at the Chichester A.C. event which had 400 athletes in attendance.
This is reminder about the third race in the series of seven sponsored by ADVISA HEPBURN ORACLE which takes place on Saturday, 16 November at Beauport. These races are organised by the JERSEY SPARTAN ATHLETICS CLUB , but are open to all.
Races will start at 1:15pm and check in opens from 12:45pm. There is no pre-registration required and no charge, thanks to the sponsorship.

The second race of the Advisa Hepburn Oracle junior cross country series saw yet another record 107 finishers on a very wet Saturday at St Ouen’s Manor.
